At CLEAR Training, we deliver specialist training for professionals working with individuals with learning disabilities, with a focus on safeguarding, child protection, and domestic abuse practice.

Our training supports professionals to strengthen their understanding of learning disability within complex practice contexts, and to develop approaches that are both accessible and legally sound.

We focus on how communication, assessment, and decision-making can be adapted to ensure individuals are understood and not disadvantaged within systems designed for the general population.

Our modules include working effectively with parents/women with a learning disability within child protection systems, including understanding capacity, adapting communication, and delivering accessible assessments and information.

We explore how expectations are communicated and how professionals can ensure their practice is fair, proportionate, and defensible.

We conduct accessibility audits to support organisations in reviewing how effectively their services meet the needs of individuals with learning disabilities.

This includes assessing written information, communication approaches, policies, and day-to-day practice to identify where barriers to understanding and engagement may exist.

Our audits focus on areas such as the accessibility of safeguarding and child protection documentation, communication within domestic abuse services, and how information is shared during key decision-making processes.

We highlight where language, format, or practice may limit understanding, and provide clear, practical recommendations for improvement.

All recommendations are grounded in legal and good practice frameworks, including the Equality Act and Mental Capacity Act, and are designed to support organisations to embed inclusive, accessible approaches that promote understanding, participation, and safer outcomes.

Workshops focused on improving how information is communicated, supporting professionals to develop accessible documents and approaches that enable real understanding and informed decision-making in practice.

Sessions are practical and interactive, exploring how to adapt language, structure, and delivery of information so it is clear, meaningful, and usable for people with a learning disability.

This includes working with real examples such as letters, assessments, plans and safeguarding information, and identifying where communication may unintentionally create barriers.

Professionals are supported to move beyond simplified wording and instead develop communication that is genuinely accessible, legally compliant, and appropriate within safeguarding, child protection, and domestic abuse contexts.

Workshops can be adapted to reflect the specific needs of your organisation, service area, and workforce, ensuring the content is relevant, targeted, and immediately applicable in practice.

ABOUT CLEAR TRAINING

Claire Stowe has over 25 years’ experience working alongside people with a learning disability across community, education, advocacy, safeguarding, and child protection contexts. She has specialised in supporting parents with a learning disability and women experiencing domestic abuse - areas where communication, understanding, and fair process are critical.

Through her frontline work, Claire identified a gap between legal duties and how these are applied in practice. While responsibilities under the Equality Act and related frameworks are well established, professionals often benefit from practical, experience-based support to translate these into accessible and meaningful approaches.

CLEAR Training was developed in response to this.

It provides practical, experience-based training, workshops, and consultancy that support professionals to communicate more effectively, make appropriate and lawful adjustments, and ensure people with a learning disability are able to understand, participate, and be safely included in decisions that affect their lives.

Claire is known for her calm, grounded approach - translating complex responsibilities into clear, realistic practice that can be applied immediately within professional settings.
